Snårestad Vingård

Snårestad Vingård Snårestad Vineyard is located 12 km west of Ystad in the rolling landscape between Österlen and Söderslätt by the south coast of Sweden. We are located on the slopes leading down to the sea, between the village and the beach, a stretch that both Carl Linneaus and the author Stig “Slas” Claesson have walked, in their respective times.

Facts about the estate

The proximity to the sea, about one kilometre, provides an even climate throughout the year and the southern slope provides an optimal sun exposure for the vines. The soil consists of heavy clay with elements of limestone. We planted our first vines in 2010 and have increased the number to about 1000 vines divided into three different varieties of grapes; SolarisCabernet Cortisand Siramé, with 550, 400 and 70 vines respectively.

The farm dates from the mid-19th century and has turned into a vineyard in the early 2000s. The winery, completed in 2016, was built in the old cowshed. That same year, we sold our first wines. Today there is a selection of our wines available at various local restaurants in the Skåne region.

We, the happy owners of this vineyard, are Marguerite and Staffan. Our ambition is to make high quality wines every year, letting the vintage reflect the growing season. Our northern climate and the specific grape varieties used give our wines a very fruity aroma.

We have chosen to ferment and store our wines in stainless steel tanks. Storing the wines in their tanks on the fine yeast, a process called "sur lie", for at least one year before bottling, brings about a more rounded wine style. The must for our white wines is not cleared, and none of our wines are filtered before bottling.
